About Me

I am an artist and illustrator whose work has an intensely historical, even biographical concept to it. As an artist, I see the objects that I paint through the eyes of a 18th century limner, or traveling artist and naturalist. I’ve always been drawn to things that have a history and a story behind them, things that show signs of wear or age. My goal as an artist is to create every item with an historical past with an aged look and feel to it. Each of my paintings resonates with an historical perspective upon its completion, a look and patina of having been loved and handed down from generation to generation, hinting at ownership by a long forgotten person. Pencil notations and marginalia are often added to give an additional appearance of age and prior usage. My artistic versatility has helped me achieve status as one of the top craftspeople in America. Early American Life magazine has thrice named me one of the top traditional craftsmen in America. In early America, these announcements featured primitive drawings of angels, birds, flowers, hearts, etc. The resulting Early American Folk Art art or Fraktur was often the record of a family's history. These items were hung on walls, pasted inside trunks and passed on from generation to generation.
  
You provide the details to create a wonderful keepsake, Each one is personalized with the information that you send.  I then combine your information with the fraktur art, print it on a heavy stock paper and then hand watercolor each one individually. Size: 8 1/2 x 11”. Can fit an  8 1/2 x 11” document frame or can be cropped to fit into an 8” x 10” frame.


If you'd like a RECORD OF MARRIAGE, just send me the name of the bride and groom and the date of the wedding. For RECORD OF BIRTH, I need the name of the child, sex, date of birth and the mother and father's name.  If they are a Mr. and Mrs., let me know. Otherwise just give me their names.
